White Witch Golf Course at Rose Hall
About
The White Witch Course at Rose Hall is named after one of Jamaica's most famous legends, Annie Palmer who was called the "White Witch of Rose Hall." It is rumored that her spirit haunts the Rose Hall estate, including the golf course. Rather than a tropical setting, the course has a unique mountainous terrain but the vibrant foliage, tradewinds, and pleasant ocean views are still in keeping with its Caribbean location. The golf course is challenging with an intimidating layout that features dramatic elevation changes and numerous well-placed bunkers. Although it is a difficult course, its scenery makes it popular amongst all golfers.

Nice place but I was misled.
I enjoyed the course greatly. My caddie was helpful and very knowledgeable with target lines and yardages adjusting for slope. There were some rough spots on the greens that must have been there for a long time. Generally the conditions were good although it was very dry.
The misleading component was that my golf now booking said the caddie fees were included but when I arrived they insisted that they were not included and I must pay. Since I don’t have international calling I couldn’t rectify with customer service.
I did cancel my tee time later in the week. Worth playing once. Not twice.
Steve’s review
Ok, a few of the greens was bumpy. Other than that excellent course, fantastic views, lots of drink, and the best round so far, 82. Play it, you will love it.
The most beautiful course. The greens were a little rough because they were closed due to COVID. Eurica Wallace is the best caddy ever. We played three days and enjoyed it immensely.
White witch
The course has just opened and the greens are in poor condition. Still a magnificent layout and good pace of play. Not sure the mandatory caddie is needed.
Just reopened - Still worth the play
The course had been left to overgrow since COVID but just reopened on 12/15/22; I played it roughly 3 days since reopening and I was ultimately glad that I did. It's definitely not the BEST course in Jamaica, nor in the MoBay area in it's current state (Cinnamon Hill came more highly reviewed by the staff), but you get 3 very distinct styles on this course; elevated ocean views, great mountain backdrops, and cool winding jungle layouts; definitely not something I think you'll find ANYWHERE ELSE on the island.
The fairways and tee boxes were all pretty much in "as expected" condition for the price point. Everything was cut tight, there were some problem spots but nothing that you wouldn't see anywhere else. The biggest issue were the greens and the bunkers. Some of the greens had bare spots/dirt/sand plaguing them, but you could tell the course is paying the right attention in an attempt to bring them back to full condition. Bunkers are likely going to need to be fully redone if they want to get a a mid $100 price point; none of them were playable while I was there.
Driving range was also still closed when I played but it looked awesome. The clubhouse needs a full overhaul as it's outdated and there wasn't much in terms of food options.
Overall the review I got was that Cinnamon Hill is in far better condition and likely best for those looking to maximize a single round of golf on the island, but the views and layout are likely more incredible at White Witch.
White Witch
Some of the best views on a golf course you will find anywhere, almost every hole has something incredible to look at. Some of the greens aren’t in great shape, which they told us about before our round. The course conditions are not pristine like a top end US course, but it is more than playable; and you spend more time staring into the ocean than you do looking at the grass... if you are a golfer coming to Montego Bay you absolutely have to make this part of your trip!
A top 25 course in the world
Views, and elevation changes are second to none. Each hole has it's own unique personality. Add a caddy to your cart and you'll have a guaranteed once in a lifetime experience.
The course was in good shape and fun to play!
What can I say about my experience at White Witch but, WOW! The price was unbeatable, and the course was WIDE open. I played on Monday and my caddie told me that she hadn't had a golfer since the previous Friday(off-peak). The layout was challenging, but not unplayable. The views were dynamic, and the greens were fast and rolling. My caddy knew the course very well, and was extremely helpful with club selection. I look forward to going back and playing the course again!! I also purchased a shirt out of the pro shop and it was reasonably priced. I highly recommend playing White Witch if you get to Monty Bay!!!
Thank you Fabian
White witch is a fun but very challenging course. The views of the ocean and mountainsides are spectacular and the experience is a must for any golfer traveling to Jamaica! I suggest you request Fabian to be your caddy. He was awesome! My wife basically got a golf lesson the entire round. His knowledge of the course and helpful guidance made the round! We plan to come back for years to come!
Getting better
Have played the witch numerous times last 5 yrs and while the layout and views are excellent the conditions have at time been suspect. This year the course was under new ownership and as they were getting ready for the big break (think it is Altered golf on golf channel) it was in good shape. Staff is friendly and your caddy can definitely help your score but more importantly can definitely add to the enjoyment. The par 3's are picturesque and very good holes. You will come away with a number of holes you remember which is the mark of a good course. Stayed at the hyatt ziva and they have a golf package that makes the cost very reasonable. I have played Cinammon hill and the sandals golf course in Jamaica and while all are different, the Witch is the one to play if only playing once.
No warts on the beautiful White Witch
The White Witch casts her spell as soon as golfers step outside the back door of the clubhouse. The view of the ocean from the patio gets even more gorgeous down on the first tee, a par-5 that drops off dramatically to a well-bunkered fairway below. There might not be a prettier course in Jamaica than this one. All the holes, sitting high on a hillside, are cut from an unforgiving path through the jungle. The downhill tee shots like No. 1 are offset by a handful of steep climbs to elevated greens (like no. 9). It's a nice mix of birdie opportunities and gut-punching tests of golf. Caddies, which are required, really help reading greens full of grain. Although the course had some rough spots in conditioning, the White Witch still remains a top 10 Caribbean golf experience. Yeah, Mon.
A great caribbean mountain golf experience
I really like the layout of this course, lots of elevation change, nice views, fairways in excellent condition, greens pretty good (some burn in places but otherwise good). A caddy is required in Jamaica. My caddy Chicko was good for 10+ strokes a round, played with him twice. Having a good caddy in my mind contributes greatly to the golf experience. I have fond memories of playing this course three years earlier. White Witch is one of my favorite courses in the world.
