Barbados Golf Club has been a frequent host to the Barbados Open and different PGA events. Originally opened in 1974 as Barbados' first public course, it closed for renovation and reopened in 2000 to present a new environmentally friendly, links-style design by Ron Kirby. Barbados Golf Club was also changed to make it more playable, yet still challenging. To keep golfers on their feet, Kirby strategically incorporated the original trees of the golf course and he also created coral waste bunkers that come into play on four holes. Two notable holes, referred to as the "Returning Nines," finish on a triple-tiered green that wraps around a lake.
