Playa Grande Golf Course, on the west coast of the Dominican Republic, was Robert Trent Jones' last course and some consider it one of his best. Playa Grande has a rustic setting that stretches over five miles of coastline, perched above seaside cliffs and surrounded by forests and farms with natural springs flowing throughout. The hilly landscape provides natural undulations that are ideal for golf. Jones included his signature leaf-shaped bunkers, along with wide fairways and large, steeply sloped greens. Over half of Playa Grande's holes play right along 100-foot bluffs above the ocean, providing an exciting game as well as oceanfront views.

Spectacular course with 12 holes fully along a steep cliff overlooking the most beautiful ocean and beach, at Playa Grande, one can imagine. Full value for conditioning, routing and backdrop, this course, Robert Trent Jones, Sr;s FINAL course, is worthy of the best in the country and then some. OUt of place, as it is 90 minutes almost directly east from the Puerto Plata airport, it often gets left out when talking about the course in the Dominican. But don't be fooled. having played Caso de Campo, then ranked 34th in the world, I preferred this course over it. As well, two gentlemen I met and played with, from california and having played Pebble Beach, preferred this course. And the price, $110 two years ago, was quite reasonable, to say the least. The beach, same name as the course, behind number 14th green, provides one of the most amazing photo opportunities one will ever see, and this time from the course as well. Amazing.
