Rio Mar Beach Resort - River Course
The Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort offers two courses, the Ocean Course and the River Course. The River Course got its name from the Mameyes River that flows alongside the course, which was Greg Norman's first Caribbean design. Norman made it a priority to preserve the lush natural foliage and rugged terrain of the course in tact. The course features open greens and wide fairways, making it approachable for players of all skill levels. Shallow bunkers and some light rough provide the perfect amount of challenge. In addition to the enjoyable game, the golf course also provides scenic ocean and mountain views.

- I found this course to be outstanding, in very good shape, challenging enough, and a very nice layout. The fact that I was playing while on vacation from a harsh New Hampshire winter, in the beautiful breezy, warm March Puerto Rican sun, may enhance my personal opinion of this course. But it shouldn't. It's a beautiful, fun test of golf. The personnel at this resort golf course are excellent; friendly and willing to help make it a completely enjoyable golfing experience. Stay in the fairways or short ruff and you'll be fine. I played twice on my 5 night vacation. It's the quieter of the 2 courses on the property. I never bothered with The Ocean Course, where most players went, and I was told by staff, was less challenging and not in quite as good shape as The River Course. I was also told only 1 hole runs along the ocean, so I assume I didn't miss out on a spectacular ocean layout. I never had such a good time playing golf by myself. I felt like I was the only one out there. Good twilight rate starts at 2pm, fee drops from $150 w/cart for 18, to $100 to play all the golf you can get in. I not only recommend it, I wish I was back playing it right now. It took me about 12 holes of my first round to realize I had a cooler with ice, built right into the cart. Nothing like a few cold ones while you're chasing whitey, around a beautiful, tropical, near empty golf course. I'm about an 18 handicap and shot 90 & 93. Get there, play it, enjoy, and pack that cooler before heading out.
