While PGA Grand Slam of Golf host Port Royal Golf Club is the highest-profile golf course in Bermuda, there's no doubt what the most prestigious course is -- the Mid Ocean Club, a private, historic course located in Tucker's Town that dates back to the game's roots in the country. It hosted the Grand Slam in 2007-2008 and Golf Digest ranked the course 47th best outside the United States.
The golf course was built in the 1920s by Golden Era architect C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor and was modified in the 1950s by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The course is set on scenic and rolling terrain beside the ocean, where there are few flat lies but plenty of great views and wonderful hole designs with green styles like "Redan," "Punchbowl" and "Biarritz."
Among the notable holes is the fifth -- named "Cape" -- which is infamous thanks to Babe Ruth's reported struggles on the tee box, where he hit 11 balls into Mangrove Lake, to which the dogleg par 4 wraps around.
The Mid Ocean Club is a private club but welcomes the public on its golf course three days a week.
